This page is designed to help students at Plainview High School develop writing skills not just for required class assignments, but for real life situations, as well. Writing is essential for just about every profession in the real world, and it does not have to be boring. Although, some texts can be overly boring and lose the interest of students, it doesn't necessarily have to be. We will explore much more interesting topics involving writing, such as journal writing, and my personal favorite: dream recording and analysis. I never knew I enjoyed to write until I started writing down my dreams. I feel there are many students out there who probably don't know they like to write because much of what the student wrote was required and critiqued for a grade. If a student allows himself or herself to write without reservation, and just empty out their minds on a piece of paper, it is incredible what they will see.
Our purpose at The Writer's Den is to create an atmosphere that invites students to express themselves, no matter what his or her values, beliefs, religion, or culture may be. This blog is designed in a way that helps kick writers' block, and alleviate the tension that students may face when an assignment is due and he or she is struggling with what to say. Writing does not come easy for everyone. Writing is a process of thought and can require a great deal of dedication to improve it.
You will find many students find common ground when it comes to writing. This blog will act as a central area for communication between students, teachers, and even parents, about exactly how a personal narrative is written. What are some topics that other students have chosen? What is the craziest dream you have ever had? Have you ever thought about turning that dream into a short story or a poem? How did this idea lead to your final revised paper?
